Cancellation & Refund Policy

We understand that circumstances change, and that the families who come to us are navigating one of life's most tender seasons. This policy is designed to be clear, fair, and compassionate.

Please read before booking: Because each ceremony requires significant coordination across multiple parties — including wilderness professionals, seasonal scheduling, and land management authorization — cancellation terms vary based on how far along in the process your service is at the time of your request. We encourage you to reach out to us directly with any questions before booking.

01 Cancellation by Stage of Service

Refund eligibility is determined by the stage your service has reached at the time we receive your cancellation request.

Before cremains are shipped Full refund, less a 10% administrative processing fee
After cremains are shipped, before ceremony 50% refund. Cremains will be returned to you at your expense.
After ceremony is completed No refund. Service has been fully rendered.

To request a cancellation, contact us immediately at contact@destinationspreading.com or (515) 206-4845. Refund requests are reviewed within 5 business days of receipt.

02 Why We Cannot Offer Full Refunds After Shipping

Once cremains are in our care, significant work has already been completed on your family's behalf, including:

  • Guidance through securing land management authorization in your family's name
  • Seasonal scheduling and destination coordination
  • Operational planning by your assigned wilderness professionals
  • Documentation preparation and chain of custody recordkeeping

These are real costs incurred in service of your family, and they cannot be recovered upon cancellation.

03 Rescheduling

We understand that life's timing is rarely predictable. If you need to change your service date or destination, please contact us as early as possible. We will do everything we can to accommodate rescheduling requests at no additional charge, subject to seasonal availability and destination access.

Rescheduling is always preferable to cancellation. We are on your side and want to find a path forward that honors your loved one.

04 Partners Tribute — Couples Package

For families who have purchased the Partners Tribute (Couples Scattering Package), the following applies:

  • Upon the passing of the first partner, cremains are received and held with full dignity in our care until the second partner's ceremony.
  • If the surviving partner wishes to cancel following the first ceremony, a partial refund equivalent to 50% of the original package price will be issued, provided the second ceremony has not yet been completed.
  • No refund is available once both ceremonies have been completed.

If your circumstances have changed and you need to discuss your options, please reach out to us directly. We will work with you personally.

05 Exceptions — Full Refund Circumstances

A full refund will be issued in the following circumstances:

Service Cannot Be Fulfilled by Bonaventure

If Bonaventure Memorials is unable to complete your service due to an error on our part or an insurmountable operational failure, you will receive a full refund of all amounts paid.

Force Majeure

In the event of circumstances permanently beyond our control — including natural disasters, permanent park or land closures, or government restrictions that make your chosen destination permanently unavailable — you will receive a full refund or the option to select an alternative destination at no additional charge. Temporary closures or seasonal delays do not qualify as force majeure events and will be managed through rescheduling.

06 How to Request a Cancellation or Refund

  • Include your name, order confirmation number, and the reason for your request
  • We will confirm receipt of your request within one business day
  • Refund decisions are communicated within 5 business days
  • Approved refunds are processed within 7 to 10 business days to your original payment method
