Destination Ash Scattering · Personally Conducted · Beautifully Documented
Destination ash scattering performed by second-generation park rangers and a team with over 85 years of combined wilderness expertise.
A professionally managed, personally conducted ash scattering ceremony in some of the most beautiful landscapes in America. Ancient forests, mountain ridgelines, coastal bluffs, and private sailboat ceremonies on the open water. Every ceremony is carried out individually by our credentialed field team: park rangers, wilderness guides, and conservation professionals who have spent their careers on these lands. Your family chooses the destination. We handle everything else and return professional photographs, GPS coordinates, and a donation to the USDA Forest Service Plant-A-Tree Program made in your loved one's name with every ceremony.
A place as meaningful as the person. A ceremony as reverent as the memory.
Every Bonaventure ceremony is conducted individually for one family, in one extraordinary landscape, by a team that has spent years on these lands. Your loved one receives their own personal scattering, their own photographs, and their own ceremony. Documented and delivered in full.
Four Steps. We Handle Everything.
We designed this so your family carries nothing but the memory. We carry everything else.
Where would they want to rest?
Every destination is personally conducted by our regional field team. Choose the landscape that fits your loved one's story. All ceremonies include professional photographs, GPS coordinates, and a donation to the USDA Forest Service Plant-A-Tree Program.

Your Questions Answered.
Honest answers to every question, including the ones people are sometimes afraid to ask.
-
Yes. Your family is the legally authorized party to determine the final disposition of your loved one's cremated remains. Bonaventure acts as your designated personal representative and secures the appropriate authorization for the specific landscape your family chooses. Every ceremony is conducted within a documented, authorized framework.
-
No. Bonaventure specializes in unaccompanied scattering. Our team conducts the full ceremony on your behalf as your designated personal representative. You receive photographs and GPS coordinates of the scattering area that bring the experience home to you. This is exactly what we were built for.
-
Most sea scattering services are batch operations. Dozens of families' ashes are scattered together at unnamed coordinates, with no photographs and no way to return. Bonaventure conducts every ceremony individually: one family, one named landscape, professional photographs documented and delivered, GPS coordinates documenting the ceremony area, and a donation to the USDA Forest Service Plant-A-Tree Program made in their name. This is a curated experience, not a disposal service.
-
USPS Priority Mail is the only federally authorized carrier for cremated remains. Your funeral home can ship directly to our regional hub, or we will provide you with shipping instructions and a prepaid label. Ashes are logged with a unique identifying code the moment they arrive, and you receive confirmation within 24 hours.
-
The scattering ceremony and delivery of your family's photographs and documentation are completed within 30 days of receiving your loved one's cremated remains at our regional hub. Most ceremonies are completed well within that window, depending on weather and seasonal conditions at the destination.
-
You choose the destination. Our field team selects the specific site within that landscape based on your loved one's story, the season, and the conditions on the day of the ceremony. We know these lands from years on them. We will find the setting that honors them best, and we document exactly where it is with GPS coordinates so your family can return.
-
Professional ceremony photographs. GPS coordinates documenting the ceremony area. Confirmation of a donation made in your loved one's name to the USDA Forest Service Plant-A-Tree Program. Everything documented and delivered to your family.
-
Yes. Every Bonaventure destination is on publicly accessible land. With the GPS coordinates we provide, your family can return and be right where your loved one rests. Some families make it an annual trip. The land holds them, and the land is open to you.
-
Yes, and we encourage it. We will read anything your family chooses: a poem, a scripture, a personal letter, a favorite passage, anything that feels right. Include it with your shipment or email it to us in advance. The ceremony is shaped around your loved one, not around our routine.
-
Our own field team. This is not contracted out. Our team includes park rangers, wilderness guides, conservation professionals, and an 18-year editorial professional. They know these lands from years on them, not from photographs. Every ceremony is conducted personally with full reverence.
-
Families can change their destination selection at any point before the scattering is conducted. If you need your loved one's ashes returned entirely, we coordinate that as well. Please reach out to us directly and we will take care of everything.
Family-owned. Park-rooted. Built for this moment.
We are Sarah-Marie and Joe, and we lead a family-run team of wilderness professionals, conservation specialists, and experienced public lands guides. We met and fell in love while living and working in the National Parks. That love shaped everything we do and everything we are.
"When a family designates us as their representative, they are trusting us with something sacred. Every detail is carried out by our tight-knit family with precision, care, and reverence."
A resting place as meaningful as the person you love.
